1954. The Japanese Ferry, Tooya Maru, sank buffeted by typhoons Marie in Tsugaru Strait, between the islands of Honshu and Hokkaido, Japan. It is estimated 1.150-1172 passengers were killed. The toll from Typhoon Marie on land and at sea reached over 3000 people.
